The Harlequin Football Club was founded in 1866 a little bit later than Greene King IPA which hails back to 1799. This is one of the most famous Rugby clubs in the World and more recently the club has won the Rugby Football Union Clubs knockout competition on two occasions and became the first British side to win the European Shield. They then became the first team to win the tournament twice; hence their nickname the Mighty Quins. In 2005, the Lexus stand was opened that runs along the length of the West touchline. The Lexus stand brought high quality new facilities to the Stoop, including a new members' bar, where naturally Greene King IPA is served. Furthermore, the introduction of the Lexus stand increased the capacity of the Stoop to 12,700 - that's a lot of pints!
Greene King IPA became a Platinum sponsor for the start of the 2003/04 season, and is the 'official beer of Harlequins. This commitment to supporting and sponsoring the club continues to this current season. Greene King IPA cask ale has been introduced to the Stoop, and is now a popular rugby drinkers' choice both on matchdays and for supporter nights in local pubs and other events. Greene King IPA has also recently entered into a sponsorship program with the national side and is delighted to see the connection with both organisations strengthened with the inclusion of Nick Easter in the England team.
